Gift Guide By Stage of Relationship
At a bit of a loss as to what you should bring to a first date? Wondering about what sort of anniversary present won’t get you a swat to the back of the head? We polled women in various stages of relationships as to what worked best and why- read on to find out if your idea has merit, or, if your gift idea will land you in the doghouse.
Flowers and Chocolates: Debunked!
Most of the women that we talked to were flattered by gifts of flowers on the first date. This romantic gesture is generally made sweeter by being sure to choose the appropriate flower- and depending on the stage of the relationship, yours can either wow or whoah a woman.
Avoid chocolates for first dates. Generally speaking, you can find out what a woman’s position on sweets are by the third or fourth, and this will save you the very awkward diet discussion.
It is not recommended that you gift every single first date- don’t overdo it. For the first date, lighter florals. Once you have decided to broach the subject of possible commitment? Bring on the roses.
Anniversary Mishaps
No matter how much she has mentioned wanting that blender or vacuum, do not do it! Save that for a random surprise, and keep the anniversary gifts romantic. First anniversaries generally pop with roses and smaller jewelery items- one great tip we heard most? A charm bracelet or necklace, which would be added to, year by year to show your faith in the relationship itself.
Later anniversaries require careful thought and planning, but a real winner is a second honeymoon, or a return to the place you spent your first. The longer the relationship, the better the gift should be, and time will definitely give you better tips as to what she wants and what will light up her eyes.
Mother’s Day
A note on Mother’s Day, for those of you looking for the best gift ideas here. Give the mother in your life the gift of a relaxing massage and a day of pampering. This is always a sure fire winner- and if followed up by not having to engage in the duties you’re thanking her for? Definitely a winner. Other great suggestions we heard were a weekend away from the children, where spoiling the Mom was the priority, or a fun afternoon out shopping at her favorite places followed by a romantic evening meal.
Just Because
When you are in a relationship, especially in those critical first days- the just because gift is always wonderful. A small floral arrangement sent to the office, a sweet love note on the car- these don’t have to be large, just thoughtful. But keep it up once the honeymoon phase is over.
Once you get an idea of what the woman in your life likes, gifting gets much easier. Yes, it is true that some are more practical- but every lady likes a bit of romance, be it for an occasion, or “just because”.
