Setting the Mood For a Perfect Candlelit Dinner
Posted on October 7, 2009 by Two Becomes One
A candlelit dinner is probably one of the most time tested, romantic dates you could possibly ask for, and it works well for both genders. Setting the mood for the perfect romantic dinner is just as easy as picking up the right candles and playing the right music- if you have those elements in place, it doesn’t matter if you can’t cook. Even pizza looks great on a plate lit by scented candles with a little Mozart playing in the background.
Make Sure Your Place is Clean
Or, at least the room where you plan to serve the dinner. Even if you don’t have a dining room table- clearing out the floor in front of your couch in the living room and laying down a nice blanket for a candlelit pic nic is a creative approach to a classic. However, no matter how romantic the idea, if executed with sweaty gym socks laying nearby or your work papers all over the place- it’s going to fall short. Another overlooked area, clean your kitchen. Any date worth their salt is going to at least attempt to help you clean up, and if they take a dish to the sink and your kitchen looks like an ecosystem unto itself, it’s just not all that impressive. So, make sure three rooms at least are clean, the kitchen, and the bathroom. We shouldn’t have to tell you why the bathroom being clean is important, it just is.
Candles and Music
If this is your first romantic dinner at your place, do not, and I repeat, do not use Barry White. Barry White is music for sex, pure and simple and most people are pretty hip to that. Soft classical, jazz, smooth blues, these are all great choices. Barry White is wonderful for later dates, but not the initial- try a little Billie Holiday to really show off how sensitive you can be. Her dulcet and smooth tones appeal to both genders and played at a low level this is sure to appeal. Candles should be scented. The best scents for romance are warm- lavender, jasmine and vanilla work best.
Food Itself
Surprisingly, the food at a candlelit dinner isn’t really all that important. Even if you don’t cook, being appropriately humble about why you’re serving take out can be a very cute thing. Bonus if you actually do cook but, if you really feel you must fake it- a rotisserie chicken and roasted potatoes is an easy way to do that. If you get called on the fact that you didn’t really make the chicken, don’t say you weren’t warned.
The first candlelit dinner can be a critical point in any new dating relationship, especially if it is the first dinner date at your place. Making sure you make it memorable for all the right reasons can lead to the date where breaking out the Barry White may be in order for you.
