Whether you have a date coming up, or you’re just hoping to impress someone you’ve had your eye on for a while, we all seek to make a great first impression on someone at some point or another. Being able to make a lasting connection is not as hard as you think, once you have established that overall impression that you are someone who is not only awesome, but worth getting to know a bit better. There are many ways that you do this, however, there are just a few key things here, a few small ways you can make sure that you aren’t making the wrong impression.

Clean and Neat

You know, it should go with out saying that if you want to impress someone, you don’t show up looking like you just stepped off the job site. But, if you are just stepping off the job site, and that is your only chance- be sure that you explain that and maybe apologize. Sure, you’re probably not sorry, but it shows that you are considerate enough to let them know you’re aware that your presentation is not exactly as great as it could be. I mean, we’ve all seen the Diet Coke commercial, and while women aren’t expecting you to rip off your tight white t shirt to reveal rippling, sweaty- oh, we lost our train of thought for a moment there. If you just came from the job site, say so, even if it is obvious, apologize then move on. If you didn’t? Shower, shave, clean jeans or khakis and a clean shirt. Trust us, if you did have time to present yourself clean, and you didn’t, that is something memorable and not in the way that most hope that it is.

Mind Your Manners!

Mother was not wrong, pleases and thank yous are an important part to showing someone that you are thoughtful in a small way that doesn’t come across as fake. Opening doors for some is another way, as well as being sure to listen attentively. Listen guys, if you want a woman to like you, making sure that she feels heard is important- and who knows, you may just learn a thing or two. Being respectful and polite will take you a long, long way. You may not bring flowers and candy, but being able to really listen, and make her feel as though you are truly equals is probably the single most impressive thing that you as a man can do to impress a woman. And, well, we hope that you really feel that way, because this is one first impression that if you do fake it well, it all comes out later and that is really bad. Don’t drink heavily, don’t overdo it on the food. Yes, we’re aware, a man’s gotta eat but that doesn’t mean for the first date we want to see you getting soused and putting away three buffet stands worth of food.
